Affiliate projects

On this page, you'll be able to read all about the alternative support the society offers its Production members. This generally falls under the umbrella term of 'affiliate projects'.

What are affiliate projects?

An affiliate project is a project supported, but not run by the UCL Film & TV Society. These projects serve to bolster our members’ independence as creatives, as opposed to our more structured and controlled term films.

What support is provided to affiliate projects?

Affiliate projects are supported by the UCL Film & TV Society in several ways. We endeavour to support our members via the following:

- Organisational support

We have recently built a system (Affiliate Link) that will allow the appropriate connection of members who have expressed specific interest in certain  roles, with projects in their early stages which are looking for crew.

- Financial support

In specific situations, productions that have already completed a good portion of the pre-production process can apply for financial assistance, which will be reviewed by the drama producer on a case-by-case basis. This will usually include support for covering costs like transport, location hire, production and costume design, etc. There is no set amount that we have arranged to give out, but instead expect each production to apply only for what they need, supported by an accompanying budget. We will also endeavour to recommend other financial schemes in the UK to you which may be able to help you raise a larger budget.

- Resource support

Productions can apply to borrow any equipment from the society to facilitate their shoot. This includes use of the studio, post-production room and ADR room.

What else do I need to know?

Notably, if you are applying for funding, we strongly encourage the submission of affiliate applications in advance of at least 2 months before the start of your production. This ensures that the committee, and especially the Drama Producer, will be able to dedicate an adequate amount of time to each project.

Please also keep in mind that whilst the financially supported affiliate projects have greater flexibility in terms of role-taking, production timeline, and overall creative control, each UCL Film & TV Society affiliate project is expected to be completed on an agreed-upon deadline.

Further information can be found in the Affiliate Handbook. Alternatively, you may also contact a member of the committee for specific inquiries.
